Where to See Christmas Lights in Snohomish County: Everett, Stanwood and Beyond

Snohomish County has the heavyweight. It also has a quieter one that people who live twenty minutes away have somehow never visited.

The two big ones

The Lights of Christmas at Warm Beach

Warm Beach Camp, Stanwood

Over a million lights across the camp grounds. This is the largest display in the Pacific Northwest and it is a full evening out, not a drive-by. Buy tickets ahead; weekend nights sell out.

Wintertide Lights at Evergreen Arboretum

Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens, Everett

A garden lighting installation in Everett, walkable and considerably calmer than Warm Beach. The best option in the county if you want lights without a crowd.

The residential drive

Everett's historic north end, particularly the Rucker and Grand Avenue area, has the county's best concentration of large old homes, and large old homes fully outlined are the whole point of this exercise.

Newer subdivisions in Marysville, Lake Stevens and Arlington run to whole-street participation, which is a different pleasure: less about any one house and more about the effect of forty of them in a row. Snohomish's historic district is small but the Victorians there are the most detailed rooflines in the county.

One thing to notice on the north-end drive

Look at the two-story homes and count how many have the upper roofline lit versus only the ground-floor eave. The ones that did the top line look twice the size. The ones that stopped at the reachable height look unfinished, and the reason is almost always that a ladder would not get there safely.

Upper rooflines, done safely, insured, included.
